The World Premiere of Thornton Wilder's One Acts - Yale University and Vassar College, 1931

On November 25, 1931, four of Thornton Wilder’s classic one act plays, The Long Christmas Dinner, Love and How to Cure It, Such Things Only Happen in Books, and The Happy Journey to Trenton and Camden premiered at the Yale University theater in New Haven, CT, in a joint performance by the Yale Dramatic Association [Dramat] and Vassar College’s undergraduate drama club, The Philalethesis Society.

The plays’ debut coincided with the publication of The Long Christmas Dinner and Other Plays in One Act by Coward-McCann, a volume which also included Queens of France and Such Things Only Happen in Books.

“THIS PROGRAMME CAN BE READ IN THE DARK”
In addition to the notes from undergraduates and drama critics published in this program, is one from a concerned Yale Dean, hoping that “the collaboration between men and women could be achieved without scandal.”
